Also, to see the Reply/Forward bug I was talking about, you can follow
the steps below.  One message, the Reply popup works fine, the other
message, it's a blank popup.  Both messages work fine in IE.

You think I didn't get my host involved with this first?  Straight
from their ticket system:

  2005-03-28 / 12:02:03

sample URL:

Your company has installed a new version of Horde without testing, and
it is causing me problems. I am a long time user of Netscape, Horde,
and have been with Jaguar/Aletia for a few years as well.

I do not want Philip to work on this problem. He is trying to blame my
client, when I have changed nothing. A new server software was
installed, and now I have problems. That kind of points to the source
of the problem, doesn't it?

Just for giggles, I cleared my cache, all cookies, andd rebooted my computer.

Now to show the problem, step by step:

Start with a blank Netscape 7.2:

Log into e-mail:

http://www.mikesmedley.com/stuff/screenshot2.jpg

Choose Horde:

Select "English":

http://www.mikesmedley.com/stuff/screenshot4.jpg

Click on "Mail":

http://www.mikesmedley.com/stuff/screenshot5.jpg

Notice yet another problem with Horde here. Look at the columns in the
Inbox list. They are all smooshed together.

But, if I click on the down arrow by "Date", the columns display correctly:

http://www.mikesmedley.com/stuff/screenshot7.jpg

Open the first message in the Inbox list that has the subject "Hi test
message from support team...":

http://www.mikesmedley.com/stuff/screenshot8.jpg

Click on "Reply", notice the blank pop up window:

http://www.mikesmedley.com/stuff/screenshot9.jpg

Go back to the Inbox, and open the message with the subject "test
message to support team - ignore content". Click on Reply, and notice
that the pop up window works correctly.

Please get Horde working for me. I do not want to use IE and I don't
want to use any other mail program. If you can't get Horde working,
then please roll back to the older Horde.

Check with the guys at http://www.horde.org/ if you have to.

Thank you for bringing this into our notice. We have updated the
devolopers to look into it. Once we hear an update, we will update the
horde on the server.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Regards,

Masood

Masood, could you recreate the problem on your end?

Can you put the old version back on here?

Is it possible to have both versions on this server?

I'm addicted to Horde, and I don't use IE, you know, that makes it rough.

Masood, could you recreate the problem on your end?
Yes, I was able to recreate the problem.
Can you put the old version back on here?
No, it is not possible.
Is it possible to have both versions on this server?
That is not possible either. Cpanel installs only one version and we
can not change that.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Regards,

Masood

I have no idea what's up with the reply window, but I don't see that
problem and you don't have the information or control to debug it! So
again, get your host to do their job.

As to gecko, it *should* be obvious that most of the Horde developers
run Firefox as their primary browser. There are a lot of things that
work better or just prettier in Firefox. This is one thing that
happens, intermittently, at the browser layout engine level. You can
fix it by changing the font size, ferchrissake. No one has been able
to isolate what exactly causes it, otherwise, guess what - WE'D FIX
IT! This implication that we don't care about gecko because of this
one bug really, really, really pisses me off. Guess what, this is open
source, you're relying on free work from others - bad idea to piss
them off. And as to your "argument" that it didn't happen with the
other version of Horde, well, you haven't even correctly identified
the version you *are* using, so not sure how that's supposed to mean
anything to us... and b), shockingly, this *drastically* different
major version generates different HTML!

If it is a Gecko problem, then so be it.  But it wasn't happening in
the older version of Horde!    The column list may be a layout thing,
but what about hitting Reply, and some messages the composition dialog
  is blank?

Even if it is a Gecko problem, I wish you would consider us
Firefox/Netscape guys before you release the product.  I would be
happy to donate money if you fix this problem.  But I would switch
mail programs before I switch to IE!!

1. The layout problems are a well known Gecko problem. It'll be fixed
in Firefox 1.1 and whatever Netscape release that reflects. No one has
been able to pinpoint the exact HTML that causes it.

2. You really need to get your host to contact us if they can confirm
a problem. We can't really help you as you can't make changes to debug
a problem - they have to do that.

3. This was created in the wrong queue, and with the wrong version number.

My domain (mikesmedley.com) is hosted by JaguarPC.com.  A few days
ago, they installed the new major version of Horde.  I have been
having problems with Netscape 7.2 (and 8.0 beta) that make Horde
unusable for me.  (However, IE 6.0 SP2 works just fine.)  JaguarPC has
confirmed the problem, but won't roll back to the older version of
Horde.  I've used Horde for years, so I'm hoping to get the problem
fixed.  Using IE is not an option for me.

Here are the steps to recreate the problem:
