Sorry to not get back to this. Turns out this was a Thunderbird bug, which wasn't quoting a colon: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1438590

When sender name contains a colon and is quoted into quoted-printable format, IMP gets confused by it and is: - displaying sender incorrecly (it thinks there are two senders) - not filling recipient address when replying to such email ('To' field is empty)
