If you can't scroll horizontally, that is an iOs or Browser (or, less
likely, a jquery mobile) bug.

with the fact that HTML message may be formatted so that it doesn't
fit into the message view. In a regular browser we could add a
horizontal scrollbar, but in touch-optimized views there isn't an
easy solution, because left-right-swipe already has some other
behavior attached.
Couldn't it be related with Retina dispay ?

viewing an html mail with lines larger
than the screen and an inline picture, only first part of the lines is
displayed and the other part can't be viewed (line isn't wrap and
screen doesn't scroll).
IOS 7 and 8 tested. Safari and Chrome tested.
