Sorry, yes my mistake - foo, FOO and Foo all return the same results.
I must have made an error in my earlier experiment.

We probably can't, since searching is done on the server side. Unless
there is some parameter we can provide to change this behaviour.
Michael?
Uhh, I guess I am confused because the search *is* case insensitive.
From RFC 1176:

In all search criteria which use strings, a message matches the

criteria if the string is a *case-independent* substring of that

       field.

For me, searching for 'foo' and 'FOO' returns the same subset of messages.

Having looked at this further, you are correct, however the search
seems to be case sensitive, which does not seem logical to me -
perhaps it should be made case insensitive?

Nick.

There are no wildcards AFAIK, searches are always substring searches
which is the most intuitive for users anyway. So I don't see a need
for any further explanations in the online help.

The help page on message search does not explain how to use wildcards
in search, for example, whether I can search for all messages
containing the text "123456", and if so, how to specify the wildcards,
e.g. "*123456*" or "%123456%" etc.
