the wrong track here. What I had in mind concerns Kronolith's email
reminders for events.

problem that email reminder addresses are not checked for general
validity. For example, if one enters a clearly invalid string such as
"a@b@c", this is accepted at input but causes trouble later when the
reminder email is to be sent. The same goes for email addresses
without a domain name.
