Horde-authenticated users is okay with me as a potential solution.

from the situation when they didn't yet login to Gollem. If the user
actively turn off the left menu, they should be aware that they can't
switch between applications.
A solution still might be though to show the application and site
links in the application login windows if the user already is logged
in to horde. A stripped down menu, only with horde wide menu items.

backend to be changed (i.e. IMP, Gollem) and the situation where the
user does not have a menu frame. The issue is as follows:
1) User logs into Horde using foo authentication.
2) User accesses gollem (for example) and gets the gollem login screen
3) User has more than 1 backend so they select a backend and login to gollem
Now, gollem has a logout link ONLY to logging out of Horde completely.
I recently added another link (in gollem only) for this situation
that allows a user to log out of gollem only and change backends. The
problem with this solution is that, on the gollem login screen, there
is no indication that the user is still logged in to Horde and no way
to access any other Horde screens without logging into Gollem again
(these last 2 issues are more UI issues than bugs).
