That would indicate that you didn't update your prefs.php file from 
prefs.php.dist and log out/in.

Just tested this.  I like the idea!



But my checkmarks are not saving?  Is that how it is designed?  I 
choose to see birthdays, they show, then I go someplace else (address 
book for example) and come back to calendar and no birthdays.  I have 
to recheck the checkmark each time.

Instead of just showing tasks/tickets/etc. on the main calendar view, 
show them in the calendar list and allow them to be turned on and off 
individually.
