Ok, so it's not user-configurable. Thanks, that will be sufficient.

You configure searchable columns in config/sources.php.

Unfortunately, when I go to my Address Book options in IMP, the only
two columns available for me to select are Name and Email. In Turba's
options, the only somewhat-relevant setting I could find was 'Column
Options', which just lets you choose which columns to display in the
address book list. Adding 'Alias' to that list didn't give me any more
columns to select in IMP. Is there some other place where I can add
columns to the list in IMP?

It already does. Just go into your Address Book preferences (in IMP)
and tell it to search however many fields you like.

The "Expand names in the compose window automatically in the
background?" feature does not look at user Aliases. Thus, if I have an
Alias for a user that is not also a substring of their name, typing in
the Alias will result in an error stating 'The field 'to' can't be
expanded'. For example:

Turba contains a user named John Smith. John Smith has an Alias of
"Dad" and an email address john@smith.com. If I type "John" into the
To: field, this is automatically expanded with "John Smith
<john@smith.com>". If I type "Dad", however, I get an error stating
that 'The field 'To' can't be expanded."

It would be great if this feature could also search the Alias fields.
