1) You must not edit backends.php. Create backends.local.php, read the instructions. 2) You added this value yourself. You forgot to add quotes.

Looking through my system logs I am finding the following error message around the time I logged on to H4 RC1: Apr 2 09:00:54 www HORDE: HORDE [imp] PHP ERROR: Use of undefined constant full - assumed 'full' [pid 8108 on line 317 of "/var/h4/imp/config/backends.php"] Apr 2 09:00:54 www HORDE: HORDE [imp] PHP ERROR: Use of undefined constant full - assumed 'full' [pid 8108 on line 379 of "/var/h4/imp/config/backends.php"] Logon does occur so this seems more of a warning than fatal.
