I copied a htaccess-file with "php_flag zlib.output_compression on" to 
my webspace account. Now I receive an funambol-ERROR "checkStatus: 
can't find Status in Alert in server response"

I had the same issue, my fix was to enable gzip compression in phpini. 
there are serveral hits on google if u do a search on this topic. 
somewhere i have seen a way to enable gzip without direct access to 
apache or php.ini

You might better ask the Funambol folks, but to me it sounds like the 
server is sending the response packets encoded in a way that the 
client doesn't support. Which might happen completely outside the 
Horde system.

i tried it with page compression enabled and disabled in horde 
configuration. Apache and PHP are not accessable because i've 
installed horde on an all-inkl.de webspace account.

the last two weeks i tried to sync horde with BB 8900 curve using the 
open-source funambol clients 3.0.7, 6.6.0, 7.0.7, 7.1.6, 7.1.6 
snapshot. No one worked without an error. There seems to be an problem 
with the server response / format or something else.
