Definitely something we should do. Patches towards this would be great 
and definitely looked at; otherwise we'll keep it on the roadmap.

Is there a possibility of getting the individual user/group fields in 
the edit permissions box to act more like the address completion in 
imp?  The list of all available users/groups can be large in some LDAP 
environments.
