Using IMAP as an auth-backend does not propagate a From-address for the default identity, which is why things are failing. Authentication has nothing to do with your default identity, it's a preference.

A default identity with a valid from address is a mandatory part of a working Horde/IMP installation. Using IMAP as an auth-backend does not propagate a From-address for the default identity, which is why things are failing. Either one needs to configure a hook for that (which would be new) or then the propagation of the IMAP auth-backend is broken and is not usable for a working Horde/IMP installation.

Maybe Horde should just choose the first one, if not specific one is set?
