I have able to use File Manager with FTP backend successfully. Under traditional view, I get option to attach the files from the File Manager (FTP), but won't get attached. I am attaching the screen shot, (here instead of icon, text is seen). Under Dynamic view, I don't even get an option to attach from the File Share.
