vast majority of installations don't link mobile numbers to account
names, for example. This is the more appropriate place to look:

Not to mention that this has nothing to do with IMP. IMP is not in
the business of managing passwords. It is an e-mail application.

in our hospital we have ~1000 users. Because of the italian law they
have to change the password once every three months. Often the users
change the PWD and forget it. They then call us and aks to give them a
temporary password.
Would it possible to add to imp a forgotten password function.
When the user clicks this link a form should appeare that asks him the
username and his mobile phone number.When he presses OK the function
checks if the mobile number corresponds to the mobile number in the
horde DB and, if it does, sets a new password and calls a external
procedure.
This procedure than sends the new password via SMS to the users phone.
