It's the change to compose.php that fixes this:
Sorry, have the same problem and bug fixed doesn't work. conf.xml has
been changed.

Installed latest version
(ftp://ftp.horde.org/pub/horde-webmail/horde-webmail-1.1.1.tar.gz)
All 'phptype' are mysql

But still cannot send email.

Same problem here, on a brand new installation of Horde 1.1
The workaround for this problem is edit imp/compose.php and 
config/conf.xml files as described here:

When I try to send an email by Horde Groupware Webmail Edition, I 
receive this error message: Required "phptype" not specified in 
configuration.

If I disable SQL token the mail can go out.

I find another message about it, It's seems a bug of final 1.1 release.
It's seems the rc4 work fine.
