You need to set the maildomain setting properly, or use a from_addr hook, or otherwise set the user's email address.

if the user use an username (eg, john) to login, sending msg will lead to this error: There was an error sending your message: Validation failed for: john@.SYNTAX-ERROR. work fine for logging in with email address(eg john@domain.com)
