This is expected due to limitations in IE8. We need to disable text selection over the whole document in IE 8 (see horde/js/dragdrop2.js). This is an unfortunate side effect. If someone wants to figure out a way to workaround this, that would be great. But this is not a critical issue so I'm not going to spend any time looking at this.

It's impossible to select any text inside preview pane (headers, links, msg body, etc). The only exception is if we select text inside an iframe (e.g html messages). Tested in IE8.
