At least some of our users confused this icon with expunge function. Whereby they ended up emptying their inboxes. Clicking this icon does warn user the whole folder will be emptied, but this still does not seem to stop them from emptying their inboxes by mistake. I chose the trash and spam to mimic the behavior in gmail where you can empty the whole spam folder with one click. Perhaps a better option might be that this is icon is not shown in inbox, but might be shown in other mailboxes. Or function behind this icon is configurable and you could program it to do expunge instead of empty. Or the confirmation message has some sort of delay until the user is able to press ok.
