When a new version of a package is out patches are released to ease the upgrade. However there are often modified binary files (e.g. .mo compiled translations) along the text files. Would be nice to have a system to also upgrade these files (e.g. using a binary diff or providing also a tar of modified binary files to decompress in project directory).

This sounds like making things more complicated rather than more simple:

- There is no binary diff tool commonly available on many systems.

- Providing patches along with binary files makes the upgrade process much more complex than choosing either a patch or a complete tarball.
