This issue has been raised on the mailing list but it never got added as a Feature Request, which i think would be very useful.

For a bit of background:

http://groups.google.com/group/mailing.www.horde-imp/browse_frm/thread/1286556366c04074/4b72818a2a78031d?lnk=gst&q=limit+recipients&rnum=1#4b72818a2a78031d

Jon Lewis, who wrote that email with a mention about the necessity for this Feature, and like he said he added the functionality to his codebase, but i think it would great to have it as an integrated feature.

I'm having similar problems even with legitimate users, not just massive spammers, but users abusing the "openness" of the use of sendmail-thru-qmail-local send, what i mean is we could impose those limits on the smtp (which we have) and make IMP send thru smtp, but then we lose the benefit of local sending, and also i think it's better to receive an error message directly from IMP's interface telling the user about the limit of the recipients area.

I personally think this feature would be very well received, any toughts about it?

This is already implemented in HEAD with the max_recipients permission (and further, the max_timelimit perm which allows a max # of recipients over a configurable # of hours instead of just per-message).
