Situation:

1. You're browsing your emails in the INBOX.

2. You open one or more IMAP folders in new tabs or browser windows.

3. Now you can only open the emails in the most recently opened folder, but not in the INBOX or the previously opened folders. (mail can't be found errors).

The same happens after using the search.

It looks like there's a cookie, which stores the most recent opened folder and prevents using IMP with more than one browser window simultaneously.

A multi-window friendly IMP (like Squirrelmail or any other common Webmailer can do) would be more intuitive to use.

We have rejected these requests for a long time, but is there a technical issue that couldn't be solved by adding a thismailbox parameter to all message views?

I imagine that the cache of indexes in the current mailbox has a lot to do with it. But this has caused some issues for us in DIMP as well, so I'd like to see it get simpler to just supply an index. The trick is that something has to know what the next/previous messages are...

I've been trying to clean this up a bit lately, but we still have a ways to go. As Chuck pointed out, this involves much more than passing around the 'thismailbox' parameter. Mailbox indices lists, search parameters, etc. also have to be adapted to work with multiple simultaneous session accesses. So it's a worthy goal, but one that is further down the road.
