My contacts are mostly companies. Therefore I use name as name of the company. In such a case comapny has no surname of course. Only if I want I'll add contact person (firstname, surname). That's the reason why I'd like to see name of the contact without any formatting or guessing surname. My patch adds third option to name format preference setting. But if I don't know the name of the contact person the only clever value for "name" (cn) is company name. Moreover, if I know company name and contact person name then I'd like to see company name in the "browse" too. If I wanted to see firstname / surname I'd add those columns to the list.
