If enabling maps and using IE8, JS is crashing big time. It looks like for some reason OpenLayers doesn't recognize that Prototype already created a global Event object (or vice versa) and overwrites it. Thus all of Prototype's customizations of window.Event are gone.

This was put in place to provide "BC" for some example code on the website that used a Global Event object stolen from Prototypejs. Breaks all kinds of stuff for us, and is completely unnecessary. It's slated for removal in OL 3.0.
