My solution is to add a shorter name to the inline javascript, which is displayed in the sidebar. However the information about the owner is not lost; it will still be available, when viewing calendars' details. Is this a proper fix for you to take over in upstream, so I won't need to patch every version? We could display the user's real name instead of his user name though, this would probably make those names shorter too.
