You can do this easily by editing api.php locally. Just change the new 
event link to a javascript:window.open() link.



But I don't see us changing this in the main distro.

I got an email from one of my users with this suggestion.  I'm not 
sure how I would go about implementing it, so I thought I'd pass it on 
to wiser heads.
