The form validation check was looking for a boolean instead of the
PEAR_Error that was being returned. Fixed.

When you edit an existing contact and remove a mandatory field (like
firstname), you don't get an error message but the change is simply
ignored.

In my case I had imported contacts from my phone without firstname
(like "mailbox").  When editing these, the changes won't get accepted
but without any visual feedback.
