The latest CVS from 12-26-06 for kronolith, doesn't have the individual users' calendar 'checked' so it doesn't display by default. You have to select the calendar, even after making an event. My preferences are working, and so is the sharing ability, but by default no calendars are selected when a user logs in the first time.
