This was fixed in IMP 4.1.3 and HEAD.

When I open a message from within the Virtual INBOX, an attached picture will not be saved to an Ansel gallery (the pop-up opens and just gets blank after submitting) - from within INBOX (or any other "real" folder) this works very well.
