And what happens when you try to change the sort column? What about
changing your preference on sorting by first, last, or last, first
(names)?
I'm sorry, you are right, the Turba's  "Name format" prefs was:

"no formatting"

Thas is a new value for this option since the last version of Turba I
was working with (with only the last-first and first-last options).

I'm selected any of last-first or first-last and the contact list has
been sorted as it must be.

Thank a lot and excuse me.

I've recently upgrade my horde installation to the latests RC1 and
change the default character set of the database engine to UTF8 and
utf8 spanish collation.

I don't know if perhaps I've misconfigured something or this is a real
bug, but the contacts are not ordering by name at all, neither in
direct or reverse order. They get ordered by mail, both in direct or
reverse order, but never by name.

can you help me?

Thanks an advance
