The number in parantheses is the number of Unread messages in the
mailbox.  The number in the mailbox page is the number of total
messages in the mailbox.  In your example, you must have 10 read
messages in your mailbox.

When I was looking at my inbox, I noticed that the summary given in
the top right (x to y of n messages) of the inbox view doesn't match
the summary in the top left, folder view or window title. The top
right total is 10 more than all the others.

I am using Courier IMAP, along with the up-imapproxy.
