Summary ⇒ Periodic initial IMP login failure
Queue ⇒ IMP
authentication for Horde and our IMAP server uses saslauthd for
authentication, which passes through to the LDAP server. A periodic
authentication problem occurs like so:
Initial login to Horde works fine. However, login to IMP fails the
first time. If you click on anything mail related, after the first
failed login, IMP behaves fine. This is particularly noticeable if
you have your startup application set to IMP. I switched to using
Horde as my startup application, because of this issue and have rarely
encountered it since. It seems to happen more when accessing Horde
from a remote location, like home, but also occurs less frequently on
our LAN here as well.
I don't know if its a latency issue or if there is some sort of race
condition that exists upon initial login. I'll try to get some
plaintext packet captures if I can, to see if requests for
authentication are actually going out and what is being returned.
