You can flag them from the message view, too.

You can mark them as unread from the mailbox view. That should be sufficient for such a rarely used feature.

I think it would be a nice thing to have a link in the message view of "keep as unread" or someting like that that would keep the message marked as unread and move on to the next one, just like the delete function works thanks!
