That would require storing users IMAP (IMP) passwords, which is not an 
acceptable requirement for most environments. This is what things like 
the fetchmail command-line client are for.

A missing feature is the possibillity to automate the 
fetchmail-process, even when users are not logged in. A script for 
example to integrate it into the cornjob.
