Email thread between Chuck and Jan:

Zitat von Chuck Hagenbuch <chuck@horde.org>:

> I'd like to change the Important flag (which is really \\FLAGGED in
> IMAP) in IMP to "flag for followup" (and removing the flag would be
> "clear flag" or similar). DIMP already does this, and so do a lot of
> other programs.
>
> One other possibility would be to automatically clear the flag on
> reply - I'm not sure if that's standard practice though.
>
> Any objections?

My first reaction was: yes, let the users decide what the flag means
to them. But then I thought how I am actually using the flag, and it's
exactly like in your proposal and I always have to remove the flag
manually when replying. Or a bit shorter: no.

I approve because this is how I use the flagged marker. I always unset the flag after a reply, and while I assume it's how everyone does it, doing so automatically deviates from other mail client behavior and might cause confusion.

FWIW - Unless I knew in advance IMP would unset the flag, I certainly would be when I went into my Flagged messages folder.

Changing the meaning of IMAP \FLAGGED flag was not a good id

Changing the meaning of IMAP \FLAGGED flag was not a good idea. We have 50000 users that are used to the existing semantics. Almost all MUAs are rendering the flag as Important, and it shouldn't be changed too lightly.

Furthermore, because someone has set the flag manually, the MUA shouldn't clear it. It seems like a bug to me.
