However, I am not going to go so far as to allow a lesser encryption
method automatically without first telling the user.  So we are not
going to do this same check at send time.  IMHO, if you truly want to
send encrypted messages by default to everyone, you damn well better
be sure those messages are being sent encrypted or else I (the user)
want to know about it.

Makes sense to me.

This is already possible with the 'default_encrypt' preference.
no, this is not the case. if my default option is "always sign and
encrypt" and there is no public key for the recipient i get an error
message saying "no pgppublickey key found for ..." and the mail is not
being sent. this is not what i meant. i thought about an default
option which encrypts *if possible* and in all other cases/for all
other recipients just signs the message.

the idea behind this (as in the other bug i filed regarding pgp) is
making the usage of pgp easier. i, as many other people, donĀ“t have
pgp-keys for all of my contacts because not everybody uses pgp.
nevertheless i want all outgoing mail to be encrypted for people using
pgp without having to remind me for every recipient wether he or she
uses pgp or not so that i can set the encrypt-option appropriately.

hi,

it would be nice to have a default option for "always signing and
encrypting mails, if possible" while sending mails. encrypt the
message if public key(s) of recipient(s) is/are available and always
sign the message.
